Pre-eclampsia is a situation when pregnant women suffer from hypertension during the gestation period and this is accompanied by proteins in urine. This is actually not a disease but a set or sequence of symptoms that may lead to some other problem. Unlike pre-eclampsia, Postpartum Preeclampsia may occur after a few weeks after the delivery of baby. A dangerous and fatal complication, Postpartum Preeclampsia, may occur in first time mothers and expectants as well. This is one of the common complications associated with such women. The cause may be the unresolved preeclampsia that the women were suffering from during her pregnancy period. If pre-eclampsia doesn't get resolved at the time of pregnancy till the delivery of the baby, it often leads to the above-mentioned complication.
If blood pressure of pregnant women is 140 / 90 or more, and the urine expelled by her, contains proteins, it leads to higher Postpartum Preeclampsia, the symptoms include nausea, migraines, dizziness and vision issues. There could be a sudden gain in weight and extreme pain and other severe problems in abdomen. In first time mothers, these symptoms are more common and it's not easy to figure them out and hence diagnosis becomes complicated.
Several issues like hindered or insufficient supply of blood to the uterus, some problems associated with the immune system, improper diet and damage or rupture of the blood vessels at the time of parturition are the causes of this postpartum preeclampsia complication. If pregnant woman is suffering from obesity, it may add to the risks of getting this complication, air pollution, uterus stretching is some more of the causes. A pregnant woman if suffers from preeclampsia there are chances that the baby gets affected. It can be fatal for both the baby and the mother. But in case of postpartum, the risk is only to the mother and not to the child. Since the body of the mother becomes weak post-delivery, it's more dangerous for her if she is suffering from postpartum. It may also lead to failure of many organs and various infections. If not treated on time, seizures may occur and the mother may be led to coma if got eclampsia.
All the women who are pregnant should undergo full screening for detection of preeclampsia, and treated as soon as possible. Pregnant women should also undergo proper routine checkups, go for light exercises so as to stay away from obesity and any abnormality in body, whether small or severe, should not be overlooked.
